Big J. Beats #Rest in Beats
I want to share some thoughts about my friend and fellow beatmaker. Although we haven't been in touch much lately, we always had a connection. Whether we had brief conversations about gear or plug-ins, we still found reasons to message each other. As a music maker and friend, those short connections about things you love are all you need sometimes.
Big J. Beats was known for making lo-fi beats and being skilled at anything with pads and sampling. Many people didn't know that he was also great on drums and bass. He was a modest guy, so there's much to discover about Big J. I met him at The Solution with DJ Low Key one year. We hit it off by talking about sampling and eventually started working together on various projects. Some of them we played out for small audiences around the city of Denver and some were experimental and never got released, but those days spent jamming and creating were therapeutic.
I'm writing this because it's tough to see a fellow musician and lover of art and music go through something like this, knowing there's not much I can do. If you're reading this, I want you to know that Big J. (Justin Alvarado) was a really good guy. His intent was always to stay true to his art form and be the best at what he did, and that's why I salute and love him. I hope others will be inspired by his work and remember him that way.
Here are a few links I think you should check out. He would appreciate that.
